Now more than ever results matter.
No matter what size organization you might have, the chances are high that you are struggling with the hardships associated with the pandemic. Unless, of course, you own Zoom.
The challenges to achieve success are at an all-time high. Restaurants are closing by the dozens. The hospitality industry is suffering. The healthcare industry is taxed. The list goes on.
More employees are working from home. This means that there’s a greater opportunity for lack of alignment across your organization. It means that there’s a greater opportunity for lack of clarity and direction.
Your employees need to have crystal-clear purpose. Even more so now. This is crucial for your organization to survive the pandemic and achieve greater success. Do not underestimate the power of clarity. There are so many distractions and disruptions right now.
Earlier this year, many organizations were dealing with how to support their customers through the pandemic. I saw how a lack of clarity created issues for them and their customers. Utilities, financial institutions, and insurance companies were woefully under prepared to provide reasonable accommodation for people who had to delay payment. They receive an “A” for effort, but their execution fell short because they could not move quickly to clarify what they were going to do, and how they were going to do it.
It’s clear that they did not take the time to clarify how to support their customers and how to work together across their organizations to make it happen. What was the result? Employees were unclear or confused about how to handle customer calls. Worse yet, customers received different answers depending on who answered their call.
Now, more than ever, take more time to work with your employees and your leadership team to ensure that people understand the purpose behind their work. Be sure it’s clear. Ask specific questions to ensure understanding.
